The Power Platform and Dynamics 365 release notes were made public earlier in the month, and I am most excited about some of the upcoming features of Power Automate. I am a massive advocate of Power Automate and the power that it can bring to organisations without the need for complicated code, on the most part no code at all! In this blog, I am going to discuss some of the upcoming features that I am most excited about. Common Expressions Simplified Common expressions are a compelling feature of Flows that allows any users to use Excel-like formulas to manipulate…

It is a point of great debate amongst both users and partners as to what precisely an Account is within Dynamics. So I ask you this, what is an Account? Before I give my opinion, let’s begin with a bit of a history lesson. When Dynamics was first released to the market, it was very much operating in the business to business space, and it made sense that an account was a company. Looking through the earlier versions of dynamics there was a common theme on the account record…. Everything on the account was geared towards it being a company.…

In this post, I discuss what the Power Platform actually is and the different applications that it comprises of. The Power Platform is a collection of applications that are built upon a commonly shared services layer. Microsoft defines it as: The ‘Power Platform’ is a collective term for four Microsoft products: Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate and Power Virtual Agents. With the general availability of Microsoft Forms Pro, it comes as no surprise that Voice of the customer is going to be deprecated and replaced. Forms Pro will provide seamless integration for surveys within Microsoft Business Applications, including Dynamics 365 and Office 365. With this announcement, it is suggested that businesses start moving away from the voice of the customer solution and replace any surveys with the new Forms Pro solution. Unfortunately, at this time, it will be a rebuild as no migration path exists, and I would anticipate it will never exist, certainly not from Microsoft, though the community…

It comes as no surprise that Microsoft have announced the gradual decommissioning of the “classic” workflow engine within Dynamics365. I have been keeping an eye on the lack of development to the current workflow engine for a number of years and eagerly anticipating the announcement that flow is going to replace this dated functionality and that day has finally come. The wording of the release note does not say it will replace all workflows as it specifically only talks about asynchronous workflows (Background) being phased out at this time. Currently, the release not advises of the following functionality: Provide filters…

The April 2019 release is out now, and you are able to activate this in your environment in order to be able to preview the features. You are able to manage this update through the power platform. https://admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com From the PowerPlatform admin centre, you are able to navigate to view a list of your environments. I would recommend not doing the update to a production instance until you have thoroughly tested it in a sandbox – I would also avoid updating your development instance as once you have updated you are unable to roll it back. From the environment list,…

With all the changes that are ongoing within the Microsoft ecosystem, I have received a notification that the Microsoft Virtual Academy is coming to an end. This has been a very valuable resource for the community, and I often point anyone that is interested in Dynamics 365 to it. Fear not though Microsoft is not leaving us high and dry and have consolidated the resources into the Microsoft Learn platform. You do however have to complete any course that you have started by the 31st of January. You can access all the old albeit newly formatted material within Microsoft Learn.…
